The historic florentine family synonymous of excellence and tradition. The Giovanni Raspini Food&Wine Award celebrates its second edition and, for 2019, it was assigned to the Antinori family, the historic Florentine firm renowned for the production of high quality wines, synonymous with excellence and great tradition for over six centuries.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday 13 June 2019, in the marvelous setting of the Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery, near San Casciano in Val di Pesa (Florence), a futuristic structure now considered a masterpiece of architecture. The event was attended by a selected audience of journalists, VIP guests and friends.
This award is part of the project of events dedicated to the protagonists of food & wine, culture, art and entertainment. For each of them, the Tuscan silversmith has created a different and unique trophy. To mention a few: Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Mario Martone, Zygmunt Bauman, Antonino Cannavacciuolo and many others.
The sculpture dedicated to the Antinori family represents Marquis Piero Antinori with his three daughters Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. At the bottom is the ancient family crest surrounded by bunches of grapes; above it Marquis Piero, portrayed as an owl, wise and full of memories. To one side the three sisters are represented in the guise of a lioness, a panther and an eagle. "We decided to award the Marchesi Antinori firm, or rather the Antinori family," says Giovanni Raspini "because - when speaking of wine, excellence, territory and tradition, history and Tuscanity -, no one is at their level." The Marquis Antinori received the award from Giovanni Raspini, expressing all his enthusiasm for a work that sincerely moved him.
